After nearly four decades in Hollywood, Tom Cruise is still one of the top box office draws in the world, with his movies grossing billions of dollars during his career. At the age of 56, he is still a top action star, with last year’s Mission Impossible: Fallout earning more than $220 million. But, all of this pales in comparison to his status in the Church of Scientology. In Cruise’s religion, he is considered a deity.

Former Scientologist Leah Remini says that in Scientology, Cruise is one of the highest-ranking members in the church, with only David Miscavige, the “savior of the free world,” above him. The King of Queens alum says that Cruise is like a god to church members, and low-ranking members must learn to become Cruise fans real quick.

According to Page Six, church leaders tell lower-ranking members to see Cruise’s movies multiple times, and they buy up thousands of tickets for his Mission Impossible and Jack Reacher franchises to keep his box office totals high.

“Tom Cruise was a god in the lower ranks. Every time a Tom Cruise movie came out, they’d buy all his tickets. It could be 500, 1,000, up to 2,500 people. I’m not kidding,” says ex-Scientologist Bree Mood, who left the church just a few months ago.

Cruise joined the Church of Scientology in 1990 and has been close friends with Miscavige ever since. Earlier this month, Cruise’s important role in the church was on display at the L Ron Hubbard Birthday Event in Clearwater, Florida. Cruise and fellow Scientologist John Travolta were front and center at the celebration says the Scientology blog, The Underground Bunker.

Cruise and ex-wife Nicole Kidman’s daughter Isabella has also credited Scientology for being the “missing piece” in her life. In a letter written by Isabella that was published by The Underground Bunker, the 26-year-old said that training to become an auditor saved her from “drowning in problems.”

She wrote that the training was exactly what she needed and what she had been searching for, and now Isabella is guiding others through the process which includes a question and answer session with e-meters to get rid of negativity.

‘It’s a few meltdowns and running to the bathroom to have a mini-episode, but it is worth everything because you will get through. This is a gift to yourself and so many others,’ Isabella told others of the training required to be an auditor.

Cruise and Kidman adopted Isabella – who goes by Bella –  in 1992, and three years later they adopted her brother, Connor. Both Bella and Connor are practicing Scientologists and lived with Cruise after he and Kidman divorced in 2001.

Since Kidman is not a Scientologist, she is considered a “suppressive person,” so Isabella and Connor don’t keep in contact with their mom. But, that doesn’t keep Kidman from loving her kids.

“They have made choices to be Scientologists, and as a mother, it’s my job to love them,” Kidman said in a recent interview. “I think that’s so important because if that is taken away from a child, to sever that in any child, in any relationship, in any family — I believe it’s wrong. So that’s our job as a parent, to always offer unconditional love.”
