Actor Shemar Moore returned to The Young & The Restless to honor his friend, the late Kristoff St. John.
The two men were family. St. John’s tragic and sudden passing last February rocked Moore to his core. It is a loss he will never get over, but the actor is trying to keep it positive by remembering the man he called his brother.
Moore is back at the CBS daytime soap, where his career began, and he met St. John, to reprise the role of Malcolm Winters in a two-episode stint. Although the episodes were to say good-bye to Neil Winters, the character St. John played, Moore has admitted the cast was really expressing their fond farewell to a man they all dearly loved.
"So it's sad to say good-bye but we have to celebrate all that is good in his heart. His heart was huge for so many of us. And so I wanna read to you one of the most recent and last texts I got from him." – @shemarmoore on his last text from @YandR_CBS star Kristoff St. John. pic.twitter.com/K0bRB3BfFa

“I danced with him for 10 years, and we’ve been brothers and so close for 20. It’s sad to say goodbye, but we have to celebrate all that is good in his heart, his heart was huge for so many of us,” the SWAT star revealed during a segment on The Talk honoring St. John.
The 48-year-old hunk also shared he owed his career to the deceased actor. He told a story of how his friend specifically chose Moore for the role of Malcolm. St, John told Y&R creator William J. Bell that there was something special about the former Criminal Minds actor. His recommendation earned Moore the role that changed the course of his life.
Shemar Moore was grateful to have the opportunity to honor Kristoff St. John by returning to where it all began, Y&R. Being part of such a well-deserved tribute to an amazing man, was important to the actor. During the memorial scene on Y&R honoring Neil, Moore shared the monologue he gave was truly how he felt about St. John. He had to remember to say Neil, not Kristoff.

“I wanted the fans to know. I want the world to know, how much this man meant to me because I wouldn’t have this life if it wasn’t for Kristoff. And that’s not just being poetic. It’s true,” Moore shared during an interview with Soap Opera Digest.
Since St. John’s passing, Moore has posted about him several times on social media, but this week he got to pay homage in another way. Fans of Y&R know the past few day’s episodes have been extraordinary. The entire cast has delivered phenomenal performances, full of great words from the writers to honor a man who is gone too soon.
