Sophie Turner got candid about her role on Game of Thrones and how it affected her real life like never before! The actress, who plays the virtually invincible Sansa Stark, apparently struggled a lot behind the scenes, battling demons of her own.
During an interview for Marie Claire Australia, the cover of which she graces, the star opened up about experiencing mental illness stemming from her Game of Thrones job.
‘I have experienced mental illness firsthand and I’ve seen what it can do to the people around as well. My metabolism decided to fall to the depths of the ocean suddenly and I began to get spotty and to gain weight and all of this was happening on camera,’ she revealed.
Thankfully, when the studio executives began to pressure her to lose weight, she found the help she needed in therapy.
As far as she’s concerned, ‘Everyone needs a therapist, especially when people are constantly telling you you are not good enough and you do not look good enough. I think it is necessary to have someone to talk to and to help you through all that.’
This is not the first time the 23-year-old actress opened up about mental health.
Just last month, Sophie revealed she struggled with depression for ‘five or six’ years, while on Dr. Phil’s podcast Phil in the Blanks.
‘The biggest challenge for me is just getting out of bed and out of the house. Learning to love yourself is the biggest challenge,’ she described the way the mental illness affects her.
And since she’s a public person who unavoidably gets hate online, she admitted that those negative comments would really harm her self-esteem since she actually believed their insults about her weight, acting skills and more!
Sophie mentioned that she was so self-conscious about her weight that she would ask the costume department to tighten her corset a lot!
