Spike Lee Remembers Chadwick Boseman In Touching Tribute And Opens Up About Working On 'Da 5 Bloods' Together After The Actor's Untimely Passing

During his yearly Brooklyn MJ Block Party, Spike Lee paid tribute to Chadwick Boseman after his tragic passing. As you probably know, the Black Panther actor had been secretly battling cancer for the past four years.
After it was shockingly announced that Chadwick Boseman passed away at the age of just 43 from stage 4 colon cancer, many fans and celebrities alike took to their platforms to remember and mourn the iconic actor.
That being said one of them is none other than Spike Lee, who honored Chadwick and remembered working together on Da 5 Bloods.
The director opened up about his experience working with the late actor while at his Brooklyn MJ Block Party he throws on Michael Jackson’s birthday every year.
Obviously, his tribute was very heartfelt and emotional, Lee expressing his pain upon learning about Chadwick’s untimely death.
He told that he was ‘floored by the crushing news and loss of a great brother,’ and went on to dedicate Gone Too Soon by MJ to him.
Later on, the director also shared his experience working with Boseman on Da 5 Bloods, which is one of the last projects the actor would ever work on.
‘We filmed Da 5 Bloods in Thailand, and it was so hot, jungle, mountains, and Chadwick was there all the way. I never suspected anything was wrong. No one knew that he was going through chemotherapy. A trooper. He never once complained. He was there every minute, in the moment, and his performance’s testament to what he put into the role and all his roles,’ Lee stated.
He explained that a scene had to be cut out from the movie because of restrictions on using Marvin Gaye’s music.
However, he still remembers it so well because Chadwick’s performance was truly moving.
‘That scene got me while we were shooting it. Watching it again this morning just tore me up. We miss you, Chadwick, we are going to celebrate your life,’ he concluded his tribute.
