Similar to other celebrities in the entertainment industry, Spike Lee, the 63-year-old director, is feeling heavy about the death of George Floyd while in police custody in addition to the subsequent protests regarding police brutality.
During a recent conversation with Entertainment Tonight’s Nischelle Turner, in the middle of promoting his new film, Da 5 Bloods, Spike Lee shared his thoughts on the Black Lives Matter protests. He says what’s going on in the world right now is completely different from anything else he has seen before.
Lee says that the country of the United States of America is in “turmoil right now.” The director claims he’s taking it all “day by day.” The director went on to say that one of the greatest things he has seen thus far is all of his “fellow white brothers and sisters out there.”
Spike Lee says that the amount of white people involved in the protests has given him a lot of “hope.” According to Lee, the United States of America hasn’t seen people in solidarity in this way since the 1960s, and it has given him many positive feelings.
Regarding his new film, Spike Lee says that his latest movie is about the way that trauma affects people much later into their lives. Lee claimed black Americans are still living with “post-slavery syndrome.”
As it was noted above, Spike Lee is just one of many figures in the entertainment world who have voiced strong opinions regarding what’s going on in the United States at the moment. Earlier this week, Beyonce also shared her opinion on the arrest of the additional officers in the death of George Floyd.
Moreover, celebs such as Lil Nas X have commented on media figures such as Tucker Carlson, who says that celebrities are inadvertently promoting riots by funding various organizations and activist groups, especially, those among them who have been put behind bars.
Lil’ Nas X took to his social media to accuse Tucker Carlson of “lying” to millions of people around the country.
