This year’s Arrowverse crossover event made it clear that the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” storyline is next on The CW’s agenda. Although we know what’s ahead for next year’s crossover, it is possible that Stephen Amell’s time on Arrow will be coming to an end.
Arrow just finished filming Season 7 this year and The CW has already approved another season. But with Oliver Queen making a mysterious deal with the Monitor during the “Elseworlds” crossover, the series could be looking to continue without him next season.
According to IGN, CW president Mark Pedowitz recently revealed that at least one character will die in the next year’s crossover. Amell has been playing Green Arrow for the past seven seasons and there is not too much left of his story to tell. If he were to part ways with the series, then the upcoming crossover would be a great way for him to go out.
Although Amell may be leaving, that does not mean the show will end as well. It is entirely possible that a new person takes up the mantle of Green Arrow, or the show simply moves in a new direction with its current supporting cast.
Amell took a considerable backseat in Season 7 as his character spent the majority of the first half of this season his in prison. While Oliver was adjusting to life behind bars, other characters were stepping up and taking on bigger roles.

This includes Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards), Emiko Queen (Sea Shimooka), and Dinah (Katie Cassidy). In fact, it would be great to see one of the show’s female characters take the lead in the event of Amell’s exit.
That said, it is possible that Arrow plans to keep Amell on board until the series calls it a wrap. Either way, we cannot wait until the Crisis storyline ramps up next season.
Stephen Amell has not commented on the rumors surrounding his future on Arrow.
