On the 19th of December, Steve Carell was alongside his co-star, Amy Adams, discussing their brand new movie, Vice, on the BUILD Series yesterday in the Big Apple. A day later, Steve spoke with reporters from Collider about the potential of a revival of The Office, specifically, his role as Michael Scott.

Getting quite candid, Michael said there was no possibility of him ever going back to it for a number of different reasons. For one, the show wasn’t actually that popular when it was on the air.

“The show is way more popular now than when it was on the air,” Steve said to the outlet. Scott later added that it would likely never be the same again if they attempt to revive it.

Michael explained that it would maybe be better to just leave it exactly the way it was. Regarding the originating cast and crew who have all gone on to different points in their career –  including John Krasinski who just came off his smash hit, A Quiet Place, which he directed and starred in – Michael said it would be impossible to bring everybody together again.

And even if they were able to hire the exact same crew again, it likely wouldn’t be the same at all. However, Steve added he and the everyone who worked on The Office are all still friends to this day, so a lot of good came from it.

“It was a special thing. It was a special thing before people thought it was a special thing.” It was great to see other people had discovered long after, Steve said.

The Office has, for the most part, become a massive cult classic, arguably one of the biggest cult comedy series in television history. According to the Get Out alum, he and the cast and crew from The Office won’t have the capacity for the same magic.

That’s what it all comes down to, and the likelihood of it is miniscule. And maybe Carell has a point, it’s rare that revivals of classic TV shows do as well as they once originally did. With the exception of Star Trek, revival TV series are typically not quite as popular.

Putting that aside, it looks like chances of The Office are non-existent.
