The photo features a black slave who was severely beaten by his white master/owner with painful and horrific scars on his back.

The powerful black and white photo might be painful to look at, but it is more than fitting in the wake of the worldwide protests after the death of George Floyd, while in police custody.

The killing of the black man spawned impassioned pleas for racial justice.

The singer penned this thank you note via the caption of the black and white photo: “Thank you to our Amazing Ancestors🙏🏼✨ , your gifts, and protection I’m beyond grateful for. You all always show up in times of need and hurry. You all took beatings like this and fought for us not to be slaves to anything or anyone. You left fear behind you… and now so must we‼️Dear Sweet Ancestors, surround this fight with light and have our backs while we are deep in this. We need you now more than ever. The time is now. I love you. Thank you✊🏾🔮”

Tamar’s boyfriend, David Adefeso, had this to say: “The best way to honor those who sacrificed so much that we may be here is never to forget their sacrifices and to carry on their struggle for freedom and justice✊🏽✊🏽. We will not bend, we will not break, and we will never relent till our dream is fulfilled.🙏🏽🙏🏽”

One person said: “Glad you posted this!!!! Thanking God for not sending me here doing that time I wouldn’t have last 😢We have to realize how strong our ancestors were during the ROUGHEST period in American history, and this shows that we are strong too!!!”

Another commenter claimed: “Damn! Can’t watch this Twice! Now That’s Some Real Serious Sh*t how does that a Human Hell No!… a Monster I would say Yes! I mean WTF*#k..”

This backer wrote: “Soooo powerful, this image speaks volumes. I, to thank you for every beating you took. I will live my best life and achieve everything. Possible for me to have a better life. 💯👏👍This is why African American is a culture. Black American descendants of these enslaved people are a miracle. 👏”

A fourth observer added: “100%‼️ Our ancestors were so strong and fearless and learned from them and their mistakes and all that they did!! Thank you.✊🏽🖤This is sooooo powerful & yet healing. We need to come together now like we never did before. ♥️♥️♥️♥️”
