Taylor Swift recently hammered out a deal with new music publishers, a report from The Hollywood Reporter revealed. Swift apparently signed a partnership with Universal Music Publishing Group after starting her career with Sony/ATV upon her arrival in Nashville, Tennessee.

Reportedly, the tenents of the agreement will take effect the moment the contract has been signed. Swift’s partnership with the aforementioned music publisher will serve as her global publisher. UMG’s Republic Records will handle her US dealings.

In a statement, Swift announced she was proud to join the company, run by Jody Gerson, who the singer-songwriter claims is the first woman to ever run a publishing company. Swift claimed that Jody is one of the most accomplished and respected women in the industry. She stands for “women’s empowerment,” the singer-songwriter added.

As followers of the artist know, Swift had previously worked with Scott Borchetta’s Big Machine Records, where she released her first six records, with 2017’s Reputation as her last with the company.

Later, Swift, Borchetta, and Scooter Braun were all involved in a publicized feud due to Braun’s purchase of the record label, effectively taking ownership of all Taylor’s master recordings. Through the purchase of the record label, Braun now owns her first six records.

Last summer, Taylor took to her Tumblr account to write a long statement addressed to Braun and her fans, stating that Scooter’s purchase of her music was easily the worst thing to happen to her. Taylor claims Scott never offered her the same deal.

Rather than allow Taylor to purchase all of the music for $300,000,000, Borchetta reportedly gave her the option to sign with the record label again for the second time, in exchange for her to own her first six albums.

Last year, in 2019, Swift dropped her latest LP, Lover, which made her the first female artist ever to have six albums sell more than half-a-million copies in just one week. Lover was the only record of hers thus far to sell 1 million copies in pre-sales. It was also the most commercially successful record of 2019.
