Netflix has just released the official teaser trailer for Season 3 of The Crown, and it gave fans their first look at Olivia Colman taking over the role of Queen Elizabeth. The new episodes will cover the years 1964 to 1977, which will feature the birth of Prince Edward and the coronation of Charles as the Prince of Wales, as well as the rise of the Beatles and England’s 1966 World Cup victory.
The new season comes nearly two years after the premiere of Season 2 – released on December 8, 2017 – which starred Claire Foy as the Monarch in the earlier part of her reign. Tobias Menzies is taking over the role of Prince Philip from Matt Smith, Helena Bonham Carter will make her first appearance as Princess Margaret, Ben Daniels will play Lord Snowdon, Josh O’Connor will portray a young Prince Charles, and Marion Bailey will star as the Queen Mother.

Season 3 will also mark the first appearance of Camilla Parker Bowles, played by Emerald Fennell from Call the Midwife, as well as Erin Doherty as Princess Anne. There are also rumors that Gillian Anderson will join the royal drama as former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
The short 20-second teaser for Season 3 simply shows a slightly-open door, and Colman steps into the shot as Queen Elizabeth dressed in a royal dress with a blue sash and wearing a large crown.
Season 3 and 4 were reportedly shot simultaneously, and there will be a total of six seasons that each feature 10 one-hour episodes. Season 4 is rumored to take place in the 1980s, which is when Diana Spencer arrives.
According to PopCulture.com, some members of the royal family have been watching the series, which is a dramatic look at the reign of Queen Elizabeth and her marriage to Prince Philip. And, after a scene aired in Season 2 that implied Prince Philip was insensitive to Prince Charles, the palace issued a statement.

“The Queen realizes that many who watch The Crown take it as an accurate portrayal of the Royal Family and she cannot change that,” the statement read. “But I can convey that she was upset by the way Prince Philip is depicted as being a father insensitive to his son’s well-being. She was particularly annoyed at a scene in which Philip has no sympathy for a plainly upset Charles while he is flying him home from Scotland.”
Season 1 and 2 of The Crown are currently streaming on Netflix. Season 3 will be available on November 17th. A release date for Season 4 has not been announced.
