Writer/director Ruben Stlund remembers Charlbi Dean as having compassion and empathy on production after the actress passed away at the age of 32.

Dean Stlund, who directed Charlbi in the new film Triangle of Sadness, commented on Instagram that Charlbi’s untimely death is shocking and tragic.

It is a privilege to have met and worked with her. He stated, “Charlbi possessed a caring and empathy that lifted her coworkers and the entire movie crew.” I’m terribly saddened by the idea that she won’t be by our side in the future. My heart goes out to her family, friends, and fiancé Luke during this trying time.

Prior to now, PEOPLE has already reported that Dean passed away unexpectedly on Monday in New York City.
The condition has not been made public. Dean, who additionally starred in The CW’s Black Lightning, made her engagement to artist Luke Volker public in April.

Triangle of Sadness earned the Palme d’Or, the festival’s top prize, previously this year in May.
