The Masked Singer Unmasks The Llama, And He's A Beloved Game Show Host & Comedian

The Masked Singer returned with an all-new episode this week in its regular time slot just three days after its post-Super Bowl premiere. And, after revealing that platinum-selling artist Lil Wayne was in the robot costume during the first episode of Season 3, host Nick Cannon took off the mask of the Llama.

The new format for Season 3 features 18 celebrities divided into three groups of six. And, Group A is currently battling it out in the first couple of weeks until they get down to three contestants in the group. They will then move on to Groups B and C, and will do the same thing until they have their Top Nine. At that point, they will compete against each other until a winner is crowned.

After the Robot’s elimination, the contestants left in Group A were the Llama, the Turtle, the Kangaroo, the White Tiger, and Miss Monster. Panelists Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong, Nicole Scherzinger were joined by guest panelist Jason Biggs. And, after each performance, Cannon would ask the contestants about what superlative they would receive in the Masked Academy.

Llama performed his version of Tom Jones’ It’s Not Unusual, and afterward he told the panel that he “was voted most likely to be near firing cannons.” Unfortunately, Llama ended up with the least amount of votes after the audience voted for their favorite performance.

The clue packages for Llama featured references to Seattle, radio, stand-up comedy, and poker. But, when Cannon asked the panel who they thought was wearing the Llama costume, their guesses were all over the place.

Scherzinger thought that it could be Woody Harrelson, while Robin Thicke suggested Adam Carolla. Ken Jeong guessed that it was his Community co-star Joel McHale, McCarthy Wahlberg made a last-minute switch to Kelsey Grammer, and Biggs was sure it was Johnny Knoxville.

When Cannon unmasked the Llama, the entire panel was shocked to find out that it was beloved Price is Right host and comedian Drew Carey! “From host to host, it is an honor!” said Cannon, with Jeong adding, “I love you to death.”

Carey explained some of the clues about his identity. The reference to Seattle was because he is part-owner of the MLS soccer team Seattle Sounders, and the “firing cannons” clue was a reference to his time in the Marine Corps Reserves as a radio operator and mortar platoon. Cannon joked that he thought he was trying to get rid of him from the show.

Drew Carey said he decided to do the show because it looked like a lot of fun, and he likes having a goof and a lot of laughs.

“This is a great show, man. I had a blast,” said Carey.

New episodes of The Masked Singer air Wednesday nights on Fox.
