The 2022 Razzies had this year a particular category dedicated to Bruce Willis.
Bruce Willis’ daughter announced yesterday via Instagram that her father was retiring from the profession due to a recent diagnosis of aphasia. This disease, which can hinder the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, directly prevents Willis from continuing to act. The interpreter signed some of the best titles in recent film history between the end of the 80s and the beginning of the 2000s. However, as the years passed, his star trail was diluted towards productions that went directly to the domestic market. For this reason, the Razzies awards, commonly known as the anti-Oscars, created a particular category, “Worst performance by Bruce Willis in a 2021 film”. “An honor” that they are now considering withdrawing due to the reason for their departure from the industry.
As already, these antagonistic awards of the golden statuettes are usually controversial; this time, they have not had much luck with the announcement of the category. A misfortune has earned the organization the rejection of part of the public. Therefore, the organizers have spoken with Indiewire, hinting that they are considering various options to respond to the Willis family’s statement.
However, before that, the Razzies got into quite a bit of trouble, posting a tweet about the actor’s retirement that read: “The Razzies are truly sorry about Bruce Willis’ diagnosed condition. Perhaps this explains why he wanted to come out so hard in 2021—best wishes to Bruce and his family.” In response, actors such as Vicent D’Onofrio ( Full Metal Jacket, Daredevil ) expressed a total rejection, although the actor has already deleted the tweet: “This is very disrespectful. I respectfully hope that one day you will learn and improve.”
After hundreds of negative responses about how unnecessary it was to highlight the category that had coincided with it, the last thing we have been able to learn is that the organization contacted Indiewire, clarifying that they were working on several options to respond again to the release of the Bruce Willis retirement.
Indeed no one would have emphasized the creation of the category if the Twitter account had not written such an unfortunate text. However, certainly Willis has not been particularly affected by the words of the Razzies since, throughout his career unfairly, the industry has never taken him seriously.
