Tiffany Haddish Cancels Performance In Georgia Following Controversial Abortion Law

According to a report from Page Six, Tiffany Haddish canceled her upcoming show in Atlanta because of the state of Georgia’s new abortion law. Multiple outlets reported that the Night School star sent a statement to ticketholders this past Saturday, in which she said she couldn’t perform there “in good faith” because of – what’s been called – the “heartbeat bill.”

Initially, Haddish was scheduled to perform on the 22nd of June at the Fox Theatre. Reportedly, the new law would make it illegal for doctors to perform an abortion after the period of six weeks, typically the same time women realize they’re pregnant.

The ban is set to take hold in the court next year in 2020, and many celebrities have condemned the controversial legislation, with multiple corporations and companies claiming they would reconsider doing business in Georgia if the law went into effect.

Chief among them was Disney. The CEO of the multi-national corporation, Bob Iger, claimed it was difficult to imagine filming in Georgia, on account of the fact many of his employees would feel uncomfortable working there. Another company to express regret at filming there was AMC, the network responsible for The Walking Dead.

Fans of the series know much of The Walking Dead is filmed in Georgia, moreover, the series draws thousands of people there from all over the country every year to see where the show is made. Netflix, as well, released a statement in which they explained their reservation regarding filming series in Georgia.

While, for the most part, celebrities and entertainment industry executives have praised the choice to boycott the state, other people on social media have pointed out the potential danger of granting overt political power to multi-national corporations, who, in many cases, already exert control through lobbyists and other controversial tactics.

As an added note, Atlanta is known for being the home of many great hip-hop artists, including Big Boi, 21 Savage, Gucci Mane, Jeezy, Ludacris, Andre 3000, Waka Flocka Flame, Lil’ John, as well as the producer, Mike WiLL Made-It.
