In a statement to Today, the Top Chef family – including the cast, crew, producers, and network – confirmed Ali had passed away as well, saying they were “deeply saddened” to announce she had died after fighting cancer for a number of years. Ali was known not only for her great cooking but also for her “personality and heart.”

As fans of the star know, she appeared on the 15th season of Bravo’s cooking show and was tragically diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer called Ewing’s Sarcoma in 2017.

Last spring, she told her fans and followers that she was cancer-free, but in September, it came back with a vengeance and doctors told her she had one year to live. Back in November, she was on The Ellen DeGeneres Show where Ali said she wanted to dine at some of the best restaurants in the world.

DeGeneres gave her $50,000 to achieve that dream. Moreover, fans and other celebrity chefs came to her aid after Ali wrote an essay for the outlet, Bon Appetit. On the 10th of January, Ali updated her fans on her condition that was, unfortunately, getting worse rather than better.

In the post, Ali said she hadn’t written anything in such a long time, and didn’t want to either, because she was sick, and was only getting worse as time slowly crept by. The star asked for just prayers, and that’s it.

Ever since she died, many fans have commented on her Instagram to commemorate Fati ma’s death and offer well wishes to her friends and family. Fatima isn’t the only star to pass away recently. Top Chef also featured Anthony Bourdain who died from suicide by asphyxiation last summer.
