Tori Spelling is at home in self-isolation with her husband, Dean McDermott, and their five children. And, like many Americans, she is trying to get creative and generate income during the economic shutdown due to COVID-19. However, her latest attempt at making money has faced some serious backlash.

Earlier this week, Spelling promoted her upcoming “live video chat” on Instagram, and told her fans to reserve their spot.

“Can’t wait to do my first ever virtual meet and greet Thursday, April 9 at 5pm PDT,” wrote Spelling. “Only 20 spots available so reserve your spot now. Link in my bio xoxo.”

However, when fans clicked on the link, they discovered that Spelling was charging fans $95 to chat with her during the virtual meet and greet. Immediately, fans started calling out the 46-year-old Beverly Hills 90210 alum for charging such a high price during a time when many are struggling financially during the COVID-19 lockdown.

“Of course it’s $95 because during a Pandemic we all have that to spare what a bummer 🙄….” one follower commented, with another adding: “Damn people are dying, and you still thinking how to gain money from us… what you were and what you became.”

Another fan noted that other celebrities were raising money for charity to help those who were struggling during COVID-19 and those on the front lines of the pandemic, while there were some fans who expressed their disappointment because they couldn’t afford Spelling’s asking price due to job loss.

There were some voices of support for Spelling, with one fan pointing out that Spelling shouldn’t “stop trying to make money and take care of her family just because someone else can’t.”

“You go Tori, u take care of your family,” wrote the Spelling supporter.

Perez Hilton tweeted his support for Spelling by writing: “I don’t see this as problematic at all! Tori Spelling’s got bills to pay! Good for her! No one is being forced to sign up for this!”

This is just the latest social media post from Spelling that has caused fans to call her out. In December 2019, Tori Spelling faced criticism for posting pics of her kids – Liam, 13, Stella, 11, Hattie, 8, Finn, 7, and Beau, 3 – and  was accused of using them to make money via partnerships with paid advertisers by tagging two different brands.

At that time, Spelling fired back and said that she wasn’t paid for the pictures and her family was simply fans of the products. This time, the backlash for the virtual meet and greet has resulted in Spelling taking down the post, but the link to the event is still in her bio.
