Vanderpump Rules star Stassi Schroeder is preparing for her upcoming wedding to Beau Clark, and she recently opened up about the “romantic and sweet” way that she and Clark discussed and agreed to a prenup.
In her new “Basic Bride” column in Glamour magazine, Schroeder writes that a prenup can be a romantic experience. She says that she has always assumed she would get a prenup, and that could be because both of her parents have been divorced three times.

Schroeder says that “prenup” isn’t a dirty word, but she understands that the idea of one can seem contradictory.
“They say, ‘Why marry if you’re planning for your divorce?’ That’s not how I feel about it, though,” writes Schoreder. “I mean, no one goes into a marriage assuming divorce is an option. If you are, you shouldn’t be getting married. Other people say, ‘Just have a commitment ceremony.’ But we want the same rights as a married couple. Marriage is a contract—and just like with any contract, there are rules, guidelines, and expectations. I think everyone should consider it, regardless of what you have in the bank.”
The 31-year-old says that we should talk about prenups easily and there shouldn’t be a stigma about it. She explained that prenups have had a sexist connotation, and people think about gold diggers and men trying to protect themselves from women. Shroeder says that’s not what prenups are about. Instead, it’s a mutually beneficial agreement that allows both partners to feel safe and taken care of.

The Next Level Basic author says that she and Clark didn’t need to have a big conversation about it, and there was no need for one of them to sit the other down and ask how they feel about a prenup. The casting director is also from a family of divorce, so they both knew that a prenup is what they would do.
She claims that the more they talk about it, the more they realize how in sync they are because they are able to have hard conversations. If she is going to commit to someone for the rest of her life, Schroeder says she needs to be able to talk about uncomfortable things like finances.
Schroeder says that she found the whole experience to be “romantic and sweet, in a way” because they are close enough to discuss anything and nothing is off limits. She added that they have only begun the process, but so far it’s always an easy conversation because they want to make those decisions together.

She wrapped up her column by writing that people shouldn’t be offended if their partner suggests a prenup. Ultimately, marriage is a contract. And, even though you don’t expect a divorce, life happens and you never know. A prenup is just a way to prepare yourself for that possibility, and it’s easy and fair to everyone.
Stassi Schroeder admits that it’s a vulnerable place to be when you sign a prenup and disclose everything you have. But, if you can be vulnerable together, then you are doing pretty well as a couple.
