Vanessa Hudgens is reflecting on her five-year relationship with Zac Efron, including the one reason she is grateful their romance happened when they were so young.
The couple began dating as teenagers in 2005 after meeting on the Disney movie High School Musical. Their high-profile romance, as well as the hit film, catapulted both Hudgens and Efron into stardom at a young age.
However, despite the relationship not working out, the actress is unbelievably grateful it happened and that she had Efron in her life during such a crucial time.

“I could not have been more grateful to have that relationship at the time,” the 30-year-old explained during an interview on Awards Chatter podcast.
Hudgens went on to reveal having him to lean on as she navigated her career, as well as the ins and outs of fame at such a young age, makes her so appreciative of Efron.
“It was this massive phenomenon and all eyes were on me. And it’s just a really weird foreign thing to go through, and by being in a relationship, it kind of kept me stabilized and grounded, and I had someone to lean on who was going through it as well,” the Second Act star revealed.
Despite being grateful for their time together, Hudgens admits it was not easy dating her costar. She recalled getting into a fight with her then-boyfriend on set and having costars look at them as though the movie was going to fall apart. Thankfully, both she and Efron were able to separate their personal lives from their professional lives back then, which Hudgens credits to their young age.

When the relationship ended Vanessa Hudgens never lost respect and gratitude for Zac Efron. Things merely did not work out for the couple. There was no third party or big dramatic ending, life took over, and they grew apart. All these years later and she still does not have one bad thing to say, at least publicly, about her ex.
Hudgens and Efron ended their high-profile romance in 2010. He has dated various women since the split, most recently being linked to Olympic swimmer, Sarah Bro. She has been with long-time boyfriend actor Austin Butler for several years.
Both former High School Musical stars now prefer to keep their private lives on the down low after having such a public romance with each other.
