Ricky Gervais, the 58-year-old stand-up comic, writer, musician, and actor from England, opened up the 77th annual Golden Globes for what he declared would be the fifth and final time. Known for his biting humor, Ricky never thinks twice about making his audience the subject of his comedic routine and ensures that viewers at home have a great laugh at their expense. If anyone was truly offended by Gervais, it’s doubtful he would have ever been invited back to the NBC broadcast, but he was. Now, his eight-minute monologue is going viral and people are sounding off, hoping that the repeated statements that this would be the last time he hosted the Golden Globes aren’t true.
With a beer on the podium (the Golden Globes allows free drinking at the event) it seemed that Ricky didn’t need any booze to loosen him up — nor the audience. Some of the celebrities in attendance did seem shocked and a bit surprised by his routine and by the time Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston took the stage to present the first Golden Globe statue of the night, they could barely keep a straight face.

Unlike the Oscars, where the host frequently delivers comedic quips throughout the show, Ricky’s hosting duties ended shortly after the comedy sketch. He didn’t continue to deliver humorous anecdotes throughout the show, but fans loved his presentation none-the-less.
By Monday mornings, some viewers commented that Ricky Gervais should host the upcoming 2020 presidential elections!
Though Ricky’s humor can be a little tough at times for those whom he’s poking fun at, NBC continues to bring Ricky Gervais back as host and viewers aren’t complaining.
