As it was previously reported, the Atlanta-native, 21 Savage, was taken into federal custody by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency. The spokesperson for the organization, Bryan Cox, said to USA Today that the 26-year-old musician, Shayaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, is under investigation in what Cox called a “targeted operation.”

The spokesman said that Mr. 21 Savage, who’s apparently a British citizen, managed to illegally out-stay his visa which expired all the way back in July 2006. Reportedly, it was revealed that the authorities claim 21 Savage had entered the United States when he was 12-years-old.

He was convicted on felony charges in 2014. 21 Savage was in Atlanta for Superbowl weekend and even performed at the Bud Light Super Bowl Music Fests just a few days prior.

Ironically, 21 Savage was nominated this year at the Grammy Awards for two awards. It’ll take place on the 10th of February. Cox said that Abraham-Joseph added that the rapper would face removal proceedings in federal immigration court.

In a statement to the publication, USA Today, the rapper’s lawyer, Dina LaPolt, said she and the rest of their team were working very hard at getting the rapper out of jail, and also attempting to clear up any and all misunderstanding.

21 Savage has been reportedly helping out young people all over the country, notably, in his town of Atlanta, Georgia. Savage is now actively working in his community, leading programs in an effort to help with underprivileged youths with financial literacy.

What’s strange about the entire situation is that 21 Savage is overwhelmingly known as an Atlanta, Georgia figure, and regularly represents his city of origin. How the federal authorities managed to confuse him for a British citizen has been quite confusing for his fans.

Last year, the rapper was featured in Post Malone’s massive song, “Rockstar,” and was nominated for several awards. Last year in December of 2018, the rapper released his album, I Am > I Was, to rave critical reviews and commercial success. Previously, 21 Savage was linked to social media star, Amber Rose.
