The View host Whoopi Goldberg recently returned to the ABC daytime talk show after a month-long absence due to a bout with pneumonia and sepsis. And, according to a new report, Goldberg’s friends are worried that the 63-year-old is now eating herself to death.
On the March 14th episode of The View, Goldberg surprised fans when she strutted onto the stage, and her co-host Joy Behar told her that she looked great and appeared to have lost some weight.

“No, no. I’m the only person who can go into the hospital for three weeks and put weight on,” joked Goldberg.
According to Radar Online, Goldberg’s friends don’t find her health struggle funny, especially since her pneumonia turned septic and the five-foot-five EGOT winner appears to weigh more than 250 pounds. Sepsis – a condition caused by an extreme life-threatening response to an infection – is the leading cause of death in hospitals.
“For someone with her recent health history, that is a recipe for disaster,” an insider told Radar Online.
Dr. Gabe Mirkin – who has not treated Goldberg – says that she shouldn’t weigh more than 135 pounds at that height, and her morbid obesity can be life-threatening. Dr. Mirkin says that obesity causes inflammation in the arteries that cause plaque to form, and that can cause a potentially fatal heart attack.
In a video message during The View’s March 8th broadcast, Goldberg admitted that she had come “very, very close to leaving the Earth” before exclaiming, “Good news! I didn’t.”
An insider says that The View’s falling rates and the dark secrets revealed in the book Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of The View have made Goldberg a compulsive eater. The source explained that Goldberg eats when she is upset because she finds comfort in food. But, considering how much and how fast she puts food away, it’s the last thing she should be doing.

Goldberg ended up in the hospital again last week after suffering from a 24-hour bug. She told fans that the bug came and went, and she was doing well.
The actress and comedienne has thanked her fans for all of their well wishes, and she added that even the people who aren’t huge fans of hers have said nice things about her.
“This is a cautionary tale for all of us. You must really take care of yourself because there’s little tiny stuff out there that will kill you that you never think of,” said Whoopi Goldberg.
The View airs weekdays on ABC.
