Britney Spears - Lawyer Explains Why It Could Be Difficult For Her To Drop Dad's Conservatorship

As fans know by now, Britney Spears has been under her dad Jamie’s conservatorship for over a decade! However, at this point, things could change given the recent development.

Attorney Richard M. Seff talked with HollywoodLife about the case, explaining that due to the man’s health problems, his status as his daughter’s conservator could shift since it could affect his ability to act upon his responsibilities.

Jamie Spears was rushed to the hospital a couple of months ago after his colon ruptured.

He needed urgent surgery and remained under the attentive care of the hospital staff for nearly a month!

If the court decides he is no longer fit to be Britney’s conservator, they ‘would probably appoint a professional conservator. There are professional ‘fiduciaries’ (trustees) that can be appointed by the court,’ the lawyer tells the news outlet.

Back in January, Britney put her Las Vegas residency on hiatus amid her dad’s health problems.

A press release stated that she decided this in order to ‘devote all her time to family and their efforts to care for her father during his recovery.’

A statement from her also announced in part that: ‘I am dedicating my focus to care for my family.  We have a special relationship and I want to be with my family at this time just like they’ve always been there for me. I apologize for any inconvenience this may’ve caused and look forward to the time I can be on stage performing for all of you again.’

Britney accused her dad not too long ago of checking her into a mental health facility against her will and more, requesting for his conservatorship to be terminated.

The court has refused to grant her that wish and HollywoodLife’s lawyer source explains that her mother might try and take his place but ‘Should she seek to replace Jamie as the conservator – it’s unlikely to be granted.’

The reason? Britney and her mom Lynn have been estranged for years!
