This is a happy moment for fans of daytime TV’s most iconic soap opera ‘The Young and the Restless.’ After seemingly getting the boot under Mal Young’s say so, Doug Davidson is returning to the show.

This amazing news comes soon after it was announced that head writer Mal Young got the boot from Sony. Fans and stars of the program alike had beef with the showrunner.

For one, Mal was allegedly writing out veteran cast members to make room for newcomers. Doug Davidson, who has portrayed Paul Williams for many decades, has been notably absent from the show since last year.

Christian LeBlanc is still on the show but was declining in screen time until February sweeps came in. The late Kristoff St. John was allegedly being written out before he tragically passed away.

Viewers were very vocal on social media that they had a distaste for Mal’s decisions and often campaigned for him to leave.

Another staple actor, Eric Braden, was also no stranger to calling Young out for his misdeeds often tweeting about it and being blatantly honest that he wasn’t fond of Mal Young’s work in interviews.

In December, those who disliked Mal had their prayers answered when it was announced that he would be leaving.

The executive producer revealed: “I felt like it was a good time to move on. Never a good idea to get too settled on a long running soap and I achieved all that I and CBS set out to do: improved scripts and production values. I have a project of my own that I’ve been developing and want to pursue that now. Plus running a show like this is all consuming and want to get a bit of my life back – and see my family occasionally!”

Josh Griffith and Anthony ‘Tony’ Morina are taking the reigns of executive producer and head writer. The first change that was made was bringing back Doug Davidson.

Soap stud Eric Braden who portrays the iconic Victor Newman announced via Twitter: “I want to thank all of you for being so supportive of our show and DOUGIE DAVIDSON! Ratings have gone up as well! Without you, our friends and fans, none of the above would have happened! We are happy to have Tony Morina as EP & JOSH GRIFFITH AS HW! different vibe on set now.”
