The two-time Wimbledon champion said on June 27 that if was able to play at Wimbledon -- as he has did on Thursday -- then he would likely retire after the Paris Olympics. Murray faced a race against time to be fit to play in his final tournament at the All England Club after undergoing a procedure to address a spinal cyst on June 22. He subsequently withdrew from his first-round singles match on Tuesday, but confirmed that he would play in the men's doubles. However, the 37-year-old's Wimbledon farewell got off to a difficult start on Thursday as he was knocked out of the men's doubles in the first round alongside his older brother, Jamie, with a 7-6 (6), 6-4 loss to Australian pair Rinky Hijikata and John Peers. Speaking after the match, Murray discussed coming to terms with the end of his playing career. "I would love to keep playing, but I can't physically. It is too tough now. All of the injuries, they've added up. ... They haven't been insignificant. But yeah, I want to play forever," Murray told the BBC. "I love the sport. It's given me so much, taught me loads of lessons over the years that I can use for the rest of my life. But yeah, I don't want to stop, so it is hard." Murray also hinted that he might be interested in taking up coaching in his post-playing career. Asked if he was a good tennis watcher, Murray said: "It depends who I'm watching. I hate watching my brother. I find it really difficult to watch my brother play. But yeah, I love tennis. I watch it all the time. I'd probably be more comfortable sitting up there in a coaching box than somewhere else." Murray is due to take to the court again this week after Wimbledon organisers announced on Wednesday that he had entered the mixed doubles draw alongside fellow Brit Emma Raducanu after the pair were given a wild-card entry. The mixed doubles competition begins on Friday. 20100403 013 1500x1000 56a386bb3df78cf7727ddc23 476153 Coronado Ferry Landing ?impolicy=fcrop&w=1040&h=580&q=mediumHigh BeachVillageatTheDel 2869ac1e67fe426697325726bd2abea6 Hotelfeature Scaled Mura Di Corinaldo ?w=1200&h= 1&s=1 TMI OceanDriveSeville Seville Andalusia Spain 02 Coronado Island Inn ?w=700&h= 1&s=1 Df36c65a13a3c1e31b32989cf55aeaf6 Swimming Pool Hotel Del Coronado A Beachfront Luxury Hotel Coronado Island San Diego Californ 529574908 5c0c426ac9e77c0001b89a28 Nujuma Ritz Carlton Reserve Royist 2 13700 High Resolution ?mbid=social Retweet 0x0 ?format=jpg&crop=959,540,x0,y65,safe&height=900&width=1600&fit=bounds Coronado Hotel 03 1 ?quality=75&strip=all&w=1488 0x0 ?format=jpg&crop=958,539,x0,y94,safe&height=900&width=1600&fit=bounds Hotel Del Coronado F0d4a85601ec4e6ba196f4f76b26fc60 LJe7c9fVDTicZdJitjbrmM 1280x906 DJI 20230901164320 0805 D HDR 2 1 16x9 ?w=1200 Vista Del Restaurante ?w=1200&h= 1&s=1 79529133 0 Image A 5 1704192719127 Widok Z Okna El Fenn %25C2%25A9%2520Ce%25CC%2581cile%2520Treal%2520 %2520El%2520Fenn%2520 %2520Colonel%2520House%2520 %2520Balcony%2520 Bigs Hotel Del Coronado San Diego Full Hotel From The Beach 18702029 Large E1513229064652 1000x582 Hotel Del Entrance Dusk Holiday Lights Hotels Guest Room Resort View Image 81 Poolside Lawn Views ?w=700&h= 1&s=1 RR Greatest Suites Lead Passalacqua ?w=681&h=383&crop=1 13700 High%2520resolution
